Visiting New York City this weekend, where should I go? I’m into Fashion & Interior Design?

mid century furniture

I’m visiting New York City this weekend. I’m into fashion and modern interior design…which events, places, etc, should I check out this weekend? I would love to find vintage furniture shops (looking for mid century pieces) that are affordable, my favorite designers are Jonathan Adler, Anthropologie, Eames, you catch my drift…

  1. I so wish I was going with you, I love shopping! You have to start off seeing Fifth Avenue, and Madison Avenue . But you must see the Saks Fifth Avenue building, you are going to want to spend the whole day there!!!

Look into the garment district, try theeleganttightwad.com, it will give a ‘in’ to all your Shopping Excursions.

    Have a ball!

  2. For vintage furniture, I would dedicate an afternoon to wondering the labyrinthine streets of the West Village. There you’ll find a bewildering array of shops in all price ranges and tastes. Also, there are some fantastic places in SoHo, but the cool vintage ones are mingled among some cookie-cutter places. If money is no object, check out Evergreen Antiques 1239 Third Avenue. It’s the Upper East Side, so NOTHING is cheap, but they have beautiful pieces.

But my favorite furniture store of all time is Prague Kolectiv at 143 Front Street in Brooklyn. It’s just over the river from Manhattan in a cool neighborhood known as DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass), and well-worth the 20-minute trek from Midtown. The have vintage pieces you won’t find anywhere else, as they’re the only store in North America specializing in original Czech design. Think Scandinavian, but with a twist. While you’re there, stop by Jacques Torres for their world-famous hot chocolate. . . you won’t regret it.
