Painting furniture: Color combinations?

mid century furniture

I have a mid-century dresser, very simple design, currently painted white, but I’d like to do a color combination: the case in one color and drawers in another. I want avoid cottage-y colors and use a more sophisticated palate. I’m thinking Havana in the fifties.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

  1. If you want Havana in the fifties suggest you think in terms of tropical fruit: mango, papaya, kiwi, etc.

    Hope this helps!

  2. I like it. Check out the fabrics in your decorating scheme, and pick 2 or 3 colors that you are partial to, and use them as the colors for your furniture, preferably not to bright, and the whole room will look pulled together. Kind of like creating a matched look with the main pieces and accessories. It can look simple and sophisticated.

  3. Id use a brown-grey color for the body and a muted pale rose for the drawer fronts.
try this combination: Sherwin williams; “curio gray” and “cabbage rose”

  4. How about sherwin williams’ “stolen kiss” (a red) for the body, and “compatible cream” for the drawers?
