The Aeron and the Mirra go for about $500 on ebay with very strong demand , and priced even higher at a real store.. are they really that good and I’m missing out, or just hype?

They are really that good. Try one out!
We’ve got the Aerons at work, and they are very comfortable. Very fine mesh fabric. It’s almost like sitting in a hammock without the unsteadiness. I’d highly recommend them.

is this company going out of business?
I work for a design firm and they forked out the money for these chairs for all 200 of our employees. I find them very uncomfortable. You have to get use to the mesh fabric, it can affect your skin. About 3/4 of our office actually like them. Many of the people in including many of our partners actually traded their chairs for regular ones.
I had to go back to the normal cheap office chair because I started to have problems with my back, even after I went through several adjustments to become more ergo. I spent one afternoon in the cheap chair and my back problems were gone.
I personally find them very uncomfortable and not worth it.
